The city of Townsville is having a normal day, until a meteor is spotted falling towards the city, sending people into panic. In the Mayor's office, The Mayor reassures Ms. Bellum he has everything under control, but he is referring to his pocket organizer. Ms. Bellum gets him to call The Powerpuff Girls, who seem to hear his call and rush to the scene, when in reality they are going to the ice cream truck. As the city riles in fear, Blossom eats a push-pop, Bubbles eats out of a Dixie cup, and Buttercup eats a rocket pop. They notice their ice cream melting faster and finally see the meteor coming to hit the city. They rush to stop it, but it hits the top of the tallest building in the city and suddenly deflates like a balloon and hits Blossom in the face.

Townsville with superpowers.

Professor Utonium examines the asteroid and concludes it is made of a polymer that the heat of it atmosphere caused it to expand. The Mayor takes it home to make it a paperweight, despite the Professor's objections. The Mayor shows his disappointment for the girls acting so slow, but forgives them. Later that night, a strange glow from the asteroid spreads over Townsville. The next morning, the Powerpuff Girls have their normal morning routine, but are shocked when they walk outside and see everyone has superpowers. The Professor explains the asteroid is causing some "interesting side effects". Ms. Bellum and The Mayor fly in and say the girls don't have to work alone anymore. The girls are rocked by the idea and insist it isn't as easy at it looks. A monster then starts to destroy the city, but the girls can spring into action, the other three adults start beating it up and The Mayor tells the girls to go back to school.

Before the girls can leave for school, Ms. Keane comes in and punches the monster in the face. The Mayor and the Professor insist they have the situation under control. As they argue, some construction workers come in and tell them to hurry up because they have a job to do. The argument heats up into a brawl as everyone fights each other as the monster just sits and watches. The Powerpuff Girls watch in dismay and soon Blossom comes up with a plan: she will stop the fighting while the other two girls get rid of the asteroid. Blossom gets everyone's attention and says if they want to fight the monster, they have to work together. The construction worker isn't convinced and Blossom gets in his face to get him in line. Bubbles and Buttercup get into the Mayor's office and grab the asteroid, which transforms their eyes into snail eyes. Blossom gets everyone to attack the monster in waves, effectively taking it out. The other two girls get octopus limbs as they figure out how to get rid of the space rock. Frustrated, Buttercup throws it away, far enough to be out of Townsville. As Blossom and the city celebrates beating the monster, they suddenly lose their powers.

Later, The Professor, Ms. Bellum, and The Mayor thank the girls for saving the city from the monster and themselves. They admit that The Powerpuff Girls are the only heroes they need. Ms. Bellum asks the girls how they disposed of the asteroid, to which the girls say it is in a safe place. In reality, it is in Antarctica and causing the wildlife there to fight each other with superpowers.
